Control of Golem on world map led to character deletion

I had just finished the maze and had AMAZING luck on items on my 2nd alchemist. Was feeling pretty happy about it. Well, I went to use my rod of recall after killing the minotaur and I auto explored the duration away. When I went back to the world map, I was in control of my golem and I could not switch control back to my Alchemist. Thinking nothing of it, I save and exited. The game went black and I let it sit there for about 10 minutes before I closed it and re-opened it. Now my alchemist is deleted (the profile is still on my account).
Figured I should report this, and if it would be possible without too much effort, is there a way to restore that character or no?
