it is possible for some chars to get stuck in there. Cursed without phase door for instance.

And if they don't have a digger? Level should use the floodfill algorithm from the cave generator, but with only checking connectivity in 4 directions to ensuring consistency of tunnel style.

Definitely better to address the core issue of disconnected levels. They really shouldn't ever happen, now that I think about it, because it is possible for a player to teleport/phase-door into such an area, overwrite that rune, and then never be able to escape. Rod of Recall addresses some of this, I guess.
