[b31] Extra Equipment Step (+turn) with Rings and Dual Weaps

(yes, I do know b32 is finally out - but I'm hitting this in case it's not resolved yet, I'll check in a coupla hours when home again)
Sometimes it can be useful to switch a weapon or ring partway through a fight, which legitimately should use up a turn, but in the case where you want to exchange the new item for your secondary weapon or ring, you are penalized an additional turn by needing to remove the equipment from the destination slot rather than doing the single-turn 'swap equip' that works for most other scenarios. Is there a plan for a 'replace which equipped item?' dialog to take care of this, or some other way it's handled in b32?

I'm not understanding the issue here.
Unless you're using Celerity, your secondary equipment has no impact on gameplay -- equipping it is no faster or different than equipping from your inventory; it's purely convenience. There's no reason you'd ever care about changing your secondary weapons in a fight, unless you want to change them to your equipped weapons, which you can do already.

What he's saying is if you're using two of something, say two rings or two daggers, in order to swap out the bottom slot you have to remove the top slot first.
So turn 1 unequip secondary ring manually (because if you just equip the new ring it'll go in your primary slot) and then equip the new ring. Since your primary slot is full the ring will go into the empty secondary slot.
He's suggesting that when you equip a ring or weapon it asks which slot to go into before taking a turn (primary or secondary).
Even outside of combat this sounds like a nice option. Having to remove an item before equipping a new item can be somewhat tedious.

Yes, thankyou for the clarification Edge - I'm guessing my use of the word 'secondary' caused some confusion due to its other meaning in the ToME context.
If I remember correctly, they do cycle at the moment so if you use 'i' (rather than w which tends to close after a single action), and scroll down to the ring in your pack, and press enter on it twice, I think it first replaces the primary, then when you hit enter again, that original primary ring will replace your original second ring. Still could be much improved though, and thankfully probably not too hard to code

Drag'n'Drop is one obvious solution for mouse users. A menu when 'w'ield is selected via mouse or keyboard if an item can be wielded is more than one slot would be nice too.
Instead of having a small pop-up menu to select which hand or finger to wield a dagger/ring, one could simply have two wield choices when the item is selected from inventory. For example, you select an item, and the options could be "a) wield: left hand, b) wield: right hand, c) drop, d) transmogrify"
