Upon entering the farportal the game locked up and I got this in the log. It goes on like that for a long long time.

Code: Select all

Lua Error: [string "game.state.oldcreateRandomZone=game.state.cre..."]:1: stack overflow

	At [string "game.state.oldcreateRandomZone=game.state.cre..."]:1 oldcreateRandomZone

I just got this lua error as well, though my game didn't freeze.

I got this error as well. Although the game did not fully freeze, it does seem like the error keeps running a loop in the background; After the error report shows up, and has been sent or clicked away (with a lot of lag), basically nothing has happened; the character did not enter the Farportal, and also, no energy was spent.

However; the game no longer runs smoothly. At the moment the bug sets in, the music hiccups a lot. When I exited the Shertul Fortress to the world map, the music disappeared completely. Exiting a zone / saving the game take about 10 times longer. Heck, even walking is laggy. Trying to enter the Farportal again produces the same error. Lag was fixed by exiting program and reloading. I haven't tried re-entering the Farportal again yet.

Throwing another confirmation in. Only thing different in my case is that my portal had actually broken previously, back before I went east. When the error occured, T4's memory usage inflated drastically, from a fairly comfortable ~60 megs to over a gig of usage. Was pretty nasty.

I've put aside a save, if it'd help any.

E: Trying to re-enter the portal definitely causes the bug to reoccur, even after reloading.

Me too. On multiple characters.

Pretty much the same, with a few specifics:

First use of the far portal was fine.
Second use dropped me into a slime (?) maze with no way out so I savescummed a bit until I could recall out without breaking it.
Third use gave an error that gave me the option to submit the error.
Subsequent uses either give a silent crash to desktop or the aforementioned climbing memory usage.

Huh, same here. Interesting, I thought that a problem was on my side.

There are two separate issues here. The second issue is the "slime tunnel bug" where the farportal fails to generate an exit stair. DarkGod tried to fix this for people with "online" profiles by working some kind of DarkMagic. This led to the first issue, which is the one where farportals go into an infinite loop and fail to generate at all. Since this used to work before the DarkMagic, I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that the DarkMagic caused the total farportal failure we're now seeing.

If you're still getting working farportals other than the slime tunnel bug, then I'm guessing you're playing with an offline profile, and therefore were untouched by the DarkMagic.
