Character auto deleted... plus unlock bug

So after spending a day or so going for the unlock for mindcrafter.... when I finally did it there was no message window like all of the other unlocks I've gotten. Didn't know I had unlocked it until I quit out to make a new char to see if I could... which makes me wonder if I unlocked it on another earlier attempt I thought I failed due to lack of message (couldn't find the wayist figured an archer pegged him)
But.... after I save him... I log out to check to see if it was really unlocked... saw it was then go to log in the mage I did it with.
No char.... when I quit out it deleted my character somehow. Looking in my save games folder his folder is no longer there either (and unfortunately it's not in my recycle bin.)
No worries since this char was just to unlock mindcrafter... but wondering why it was deleted before I lose a real character that way.
