ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Character is Lv. 25 Shalore Archmage.
This is the sequence of events:
1 ) I enter shertul fortress & slay wierdling beast.
2 ) I activate butler & ask standard questions.
3 ) I transmorg a bunch of items.
4 ) Butler informs me that I've unlocked Farportal & upgrade to Rod of Recall
5 ) I say no to upgrade & slay horrors in portal chamber
6 ) I enter portal and am sent to random zone
7 ) I slay boss, spawning return portal
8 ) I use portal

But the portal sends me back to a fortress where the wierdling is still live and the butler doesn't exist
In addition, because I have fortress quest the game won't let me use the Rod to unlock all over again
and solve the problem that way In my Efforts to debug this I discover that there is a
'zone-shertul-fortress.teaz' character's savefile, yet when I use the portal it says 'Generating Level' not
'Loading Zone'. What the <[ CENSORED ]>

Another thing: I have the option 'Force Save on Leaving Zone' disabled.
And lastly, as an aside, when I move onto the return portal, all the floor grids in the random zone turn
pink on the minimap Probably not connected but you never know.

I've had a similar problem after having to terminate and reload the game... however, unless you didn't save/load at any time, this should be a more serious issue.
I think the game isn't saving level when you enter the farportal and it probably should.
