Linux version. Seems happens a lot more often in v25. Some days(today, 11, may) I can not create a new char at all.

I get this bug a lot too, but I haven't managed to narrow it down.

Same here.
A workaround for me is to kill -9 the t-engine process (Crtl-C won't work) and then restart and load the character.

Don't work for me - characters thus failed are not visible in load menu(though they definitely created - attemt to use the same name causing recreate menu)
I see one symptom of this bug - if I see the talk in the chat pane, char created successfully. If I don't see the talk game freeze on exit from class points menu. It seems to me the problem is in the connection to server. I think lag spike or disconnect is what causing that bug

When this happens can you please try to hop onto irc.rizon.net on channel #tome and grab my attention if I'm there, I'll do some live tests

I think I may be getting this bug specifically when dying, then trying to restart the same character (OSX). (edit- on beta26)
edit again- Not just on "restart same character" also just hung when exiting to main menu after death.

More info and a workaround:
I've seen this a couple of times, paid attention, and done some testing. It seems like it happens for specific configurations of character traits.
I've never seen the freeze happen if I don't spend stat or talent points before it registers, so it seems like it has something to do with the levels of talents or stats learned. I haven't tested spending either one or the other.
For instance, just recently, I created a Ghoul Alchemist, spent the 3 stat points all on magic, put the 2 class points in Throw Bomb and Golem Power, and the generic in Extract Gems. It froze on registration. I tried again, with the same choices, but a different character name, and it froze again. Then I created the Alchemist, but just escaped out of the stat and talent point spending screens (saving them for later) and it registered fine. Hit G to spend the points after it registered and away I go.

That seems too random to me... I've made some of the same tests as you and they're inconclusive. The log breaks somewhere during randart creation, but I still haven't found a pattern to it.

I have to agree with Derivs here. Not assigning stat points hasn't (always) worked for me. In fact, I usually don't bother assigning them, since it'll freeze more often than not and after my kill/reload workaround the stats will be unassigned anyway.

I wouldn't workaround if I were you, that usually ends up in problems later on in the game. I'd just keep trying new characters until you get a clean one.
