alchemist staff bug?

I have a good alchemist with powerful fire staff. I have one point in acid infusion. I activate acid infusion and my channel staff damage reduces by 85%, because the acid infusion converts fire damage into 15% acid damage! This doesn't seem very logical to me. Why should staff damage be affected by a bomb infusion?
