Digging takes longer than advertised

Digging takes at least twice as long as the text says it does. Normally nobody notices the time passing, but if you watch the resource bars, they fill up or deplete far more than they should. I've done this with both a Reaver (watching the health bar) and an archmage (with mana drain from invisibility).
