Back from the Arena, did G to use the generic points, then went to the "3" (weapons) shop. Game locked up tight before it displayed the shop menu. gdb stack trace and stdout.txt attached.

I have no idea. I'm using a build environment that is exactly as in the wiki:
http://te4.org/wiki/howtocompile.
But I have had some of the same kinds of problems ("@" not showing up on initial character creation, strange "flickering" loop) with the downloaded beta versions too.
One other possibility is that there is something about the OpenGL driver on my system.
I had trouble with Diablo II when I updated the Nvidia graphics drivers, so I'm running with the default version of those drivers that is installed by Win7-x64. Nvidia seems to be unable or unwilling to fix that problem, so I'm not sure how to proceed with that.
e: I just checked and the nvidia drivers on my system are version 258.96.

I just noticed something that makes me think the problem(s) might be related to OpenGL or shader initialization.
When I started up the game (svn 2785) this morning, it was showing the smooth fov and the darkness of "night" was not totally dark, I mean I could still make out details of the parts of the map which were revealed but outside my fov. I played a bit and then quit out. When I restarted it up again, the smooth fov is gone (solid-edged squares instead of gaussian blur) and the darkness of "night" is almost totally black; so dark that it is difficult to make out any details outside of fov. I noticed that last night too after I updated the svn and restarted the game, but I didn't think anything of it until I started it this morning and the smooth fov was working again.
