A few days ago I wasn't able to play, apparently because te4.org wasn't responding to the game's attempts to update profile or something. The website being down/slow/whatever should not render the game unplayable.

Why not? They run on the same server.

Also - it's not stopping you from playing - it's just not going to update/load up your character info to the character vault is all.
