Reset on death - bug?

It was nice to get a toon to level 30, however briefly. Well, I just got a lot of lives drained (as in, 9 to zero) from two encounters at level 30 - and I'm wondering if the following is intended behavior. (I hope not).

Are you supposed to be resurrected with all timers of active things down?
Are you supposed to resurrect with negative health (thus dying in a single turn)?
Is see invisible supposed to, well, see invisible - or not?

Basically, the greater mummy lord in the elven ruins was invisible even when I had a vision "see invisible" active, and his corpse-camping the return place was not a happy thing. I eventually got out of that, and headed east...

where I hit an orc patrol (too harsh IMO, especially before you can even reach the town) which killed me in an ambush (OK, I guess)...followed by having me spawn below zero and drop 4 lives in rapid succession. Ugh. It looked like the status effects were not resetting.

Other notes:

Melinda teleported with me when an elven cultists did the "change positions" thing...causing her to get in the way of my arrow and die. Fortunately she was waiting for me in the shop as if nothing had happened. Bug?

Water breathing from the amulet of the fish persisted even when I took it off. Bug?

See invisible is not the same as see invisible in other RLs like angband - where see invisible lets you see ANYTHING that is invisible. In t4 - invisibility has a power as does see invisible. I'm unaware of what the actual function is - but for sake of ability - you need to have a high see invisibility value to ensure you actually seeing the things that have a higher level of invisibility.

See invisibility is thus almost completely useless.

Ah, OK. I'd suggest having different levels (lesser, normal, greater) rather than tying it to the Magic stat or the like - easier to keep track of.

Is it a coding or design choice not to reset the counters on dying?

You clearly haven't fought things that are invisible then. Try taking down the greater mummy lord before level 20 as a melee class without see invis ...

I find it so unreliable that I have to guess his position regardless. Same against stealthed enemies. And if there are other invisible enemies in the game they are infrequent and very high level only.

Yeah, we could use some invisible monsters with lower invis scores as well as more monsters with moderate see invis scores so going invisible isn't such an all or nothing effect.

As to the actual effect, it's a straight comparison. If see invis exceeds the power of the invisibility the invisible creature is visible.

Thanks edge, I didn't know how it worked.

But, according to DG - come next beta [19] - with certain enemies being able to use runes and infusions - invisibility is one of them! So, that means that see invisible will become much more important, hopefully.

Crap, now that's a scary thought! Will be cool though too :)
