Backgound still runs even if disabled

Perhaps not a 'real' bug but more of a feature request.
In the main screen(before you even select which module you're playing), you can disable the animated background and get a static image.
However if you do that...it STILL runs apparently(even if you can't see it directly): it sends text to stdout(it loads entities for example)and, most importantly, seems to take up resources - I once forgot to close down the main menu and it was slowing down the rest of my computer quite a lot.
So I say that this should be changed - if you've disabled the background it should NOT load at all.
