Artifact Duplication - Is this a bug?

Maybe this is a Bug and maybe not. Are you supposed to be able to get the same "Gold/Yellow" artifacts appearing more than once in a given game? I found the "Staff of Kol" and gave it to apprentice to complete the "Apprentice Quest". Then I killed the Shade and it dropped... the "Staff of Kol". Does it check against the artifacts which currently exist in the game somewhere and exclude them? If so, should one then never sell ones you do not like and stash them in a vault somewhere to prevent them from being recreated? I know the "orange" ones (Egos?) can get generated repeatedly if you sell them. I found the same named dagger about 4 times in one game.

Just FYI - it seems to not matter if they're in your inventory or not. I forget which artifact (yellow text, even) it was, but I KNOW I had two copies of the same artifact in my inventory at least once.

Ahhh. Then it is just not checking for uniqueness. Although it sounds like this will be changing in Beta 17. :)

Unique generation of Artifacts would add some more "Flavor" to them. It would be a bit grim though when they show up in a Store when you cannot afford* them though. Oh the pain. :) Hopefully the store inventories only refresh when you go into one.

*Maybe could pay 10% of the Artifact price to have them put it "On Hold" for you... ;) Just Kidding. That would be a lot of effort for not much gain.
**Another possibility woudl be to have Artifacts stay in the Store inventory longer. Realistically they are expensive enough they would move slowly, so this actually makes sense.

Not fixed in b17 it seems. I just found 2 Summertide Phials on my trollshaw run (and Bill dropped the Wintertide one!). Can be seen here (but likely to be gone by tomorrow):

Duplicate Kor's Fall in beta 18

My first beta 18 char just picked up his second Kor's Fall. I believe that's an artifact, yes?

From the character dump:

Just got a duplicate Frost Treads in beta 18 - one pair dropped off of the Daikara boss, which I sold since they're useless to an archmage, and then I picked up another pair in The Maze.

Make that a third Frost Treads on this character, this time while chasing the Tempest. Note that I haven't yet found a duplicate of something *in my inventory*, though.

You clearly don't understand the importance of saves and light then, thinking that the treads are useless to any character.

Anyway, I can also say that artifacts are still duplicated.

Frost Treads have pretty bad fatigue for a caster...

Anyway, lore is still duplicated too, and I think these both stem from the same problem.

Another form of duplication: If you drop your artifacts off at Sher'tul, another one can spawn. Just left Penitence behind and, less than a week later [gametime] I saw it in Angol---. Those artifact counterfeiters work fast!

Hmm, that makes me wonder what really cool daggers you could duplicate for a rogue...
