[15b] Displayed item letter & actual don't match

E.g., I picked up some rough leather gloves, and got:
"JollyRoger picks up (i.) rough leather gloves"
I then go to my inventory, where it turns out that my voratun mail armor is in slot i, and the gloves are in g.
