Music crackles

Sometimes, when the background music is playing, there is a noticeable cracking sound.
The first play, upon entering a zone, seems fine. After that, maybe there will be crackling. I'm not sure what the pattern is; I've just listened to the Gates of Morning music six times, and 1, 3 and 5 have been OK, but 2, 4 and 6 not.
Latest beta, on OSX. But this problem has been around for ages (I kept forgetting to report it).
