As skeleton/ghoul, you are now summoned by a necromancer at the bottom of a new dungeon. The text stating that you arrived in Middle Earth looking for the Trollshaws and entered the dungeon is now obsolete.

Further to this, the quest never seems to clear. I escaped the dungeon, but the quest is still listed as active, and there's no way to get back to the Paths if there was something I missed. No hints that there's more for me to do either.

You need to kill Barney, the Purple K to complete the quest. Search the last level for him, he can be generated anywhere on the level.

Never saw him. And now I can't seem to get back to the paths. Is there a re-entry point somewhere?

No... the actual entrance collides with the Trollshaws. Once you're out, you can't go back in the dungeon.

The text is still a little off. The bottom bit "After days of travel, you have found the forest and entered it. what will you find there?" is still present.
