ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

When I try to retrieve a saved game from the start-up menu, I receive a message that says You do not have any savefile3s for any of the installed modules. Play a new game!

I am unfamiliar with ToME, so I may be saving wrong (ctrl+s? Although it says "Saved world. Saved game." when I save!), but I know something's writing somewhere because when I go to create a new character it says Do you want to recreate the same character.

Is there any help for a hopeless newbie?

(For the record, I'm running Beta 7 on a 64-bit version of Windows 7.)

Did you die after saving the game? Because if you did then the save file is gone,
Death is permanent in Tome (Most of the time)

That's probably the quick birth - Skip all character creation questions (Class race and such)
Helps save time when you create the same class/race combo

yup, sounds like you died. You'll have to start over again.

Yeah, the game saves so you can close it and come back to it later (or since it's beta, in case the game crashes). The world saves so it loads zones faster. When you die the saves get modified to reflect that that character is dead and you can no longer load that game.

With a few exceptions, and you'd have to find those in the spoilers, you only get one life. That's the challenge of the game.
