Little bugs, imperfections

Bill started in water and died before I found him...
Some messages are the same color as the previous message, rather than their own (default?) color.
I've only seen it once for sure, but a monster was placed underneath me when I took the stairs to another level, and since they're not drawn when under you, it was a bit of a surprise!
Shouldn't a trap show once a monster springs it?
Sometimes a monster won't move diagonal in order to move closer to the player, and be stuck right behind something. I think there has to be two touching wall blocks, and cause the monster to fail moving diagonal in another direction, or something similar...
Although I will end up admitting that I sometimes hug stairs to live, I need to ask. Why does a level full of unseen monsters cause a long resting duration? I'd think if they weren't moving or looking for the player, there wouldn't be much code to process
