Save vs. Save & Exit

Whatever is going on when the game saves, but you don't do "save & exit," it doesn't appear to be creating a retrievable file in the case of a crash as I found out to my chagrin when my computer crashed (loss of power, completely not ToME related) and I completely lost a level 12 mage
