With its dying breath...

Now, this guy didn't kill me, but it did seem peculiar that it seemed, both on screen and in messages, that a sand-drake unleashed his breath weapon the turn after I slew him.

Am I confused or do these guys get one extra blow off after they die?

The messages for lingering damage (e.g. from the Flame spell) often appear out of sequence. I believe what happened here was: you hit him with Flame, and then on his turn, he breathed on you and took lingering Flame damage. The lingering damage killed him after he breathed on you, but the messages were reversed.
