ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

This seemed like an excellent artifact. However whenever I enter combat I get attacked by a "the one that hunts". This thing hits me hard and takes out my shield. Is there any way to counter this, or do I have to endure it while I use the ring?

You have to deal with it. A prodigy point is very powerful, so it still may be worth the added danger.
