ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Whenever I'm auto-exploring, my character always starts moving when Illuminate still has 4-8 turns to go. I see this, from time to time, with other skills but it seems most reliable with Illuminate, though obviously that could just be a bias.

Is there any reason for this?

I also very often see this with Rush.
