[resolved] linking error with steam and a Te4 account

Hello,

I bought the game on steam and played it.
A few days later I want to install the game on another machine without going through steam and I try to connect but it only offers me to connect with a non-steam account

So I create an account on the website, link it to steam to have my character and try to play,
Unfortunately this keeps the progress of the new account and acts as if my master (steam) account does not exist.

Like a big lazy man I just installed steam and launched the game from steam.
But by connecting to steam the game is connected to the new linked account and therefore tells me that I have never created a character (It does the same now if I connect with steam on the website).

Steam account (with character): te4.org/users/guiguilax
New linked account with nothing: te4.org/users/gu1gu1lax

how do I make it possible for me to play my character again?

Is there a way to delete gu1gu1lax and put a password on the steam account to connect to other machines without steam?

Otherwise what can I do to get my character back?

(I unfortunately did not find the answer on the internet if the question has already been answered thank you for sending me the link of the discussion)

I'm not sure what went wrong with the Linking. Perhaps it didn't manage to sync properly.

However, your character files are all stored locally, so you just have to find the folders and move them to a different computer/account name to play them.

Agreed that this will be the easiest method if you only want to bring your character(s) from one account to another, and doesn't really mind about achievements and unlocks.

Try this:
- Login to TE4 using your Steam account to link your TE4 account to your Steam account again
- Copy your character(s) from your non-Steam-linked PC to the Steam one (you can usually find it under C:\Users\<your_username>\T-Engine\4.0\tome\save\ folder; just copy everything to the other PC)
- Run ToME from Steam on your now-linked-to-Steam PC and to upload all your characters to Steam cloud save
- Don't forget to always install ToME from Steam from now on, even if you don't start it directly from Steam launcher (not recommended, but still workable; Steam will simply sync the game again the next time you open Steam launcher)

I think it's just a small, unfortunate side effect of linking TE4 to Steam that might have been overlooked, but I believe it's a small price to pay to have more people playing and loving ToME.

I did not understand that the characters are only local. I understood it last night but I didn't know where to change my question ^^'.

The only small problem I have is that my character is no longer sycronized, the website tells me that the character of Guiguilax was updated 2 days ago (whereas I played yesterday and the have gone up 2 level).

I will try to pass the character on the other pc to have a sycronization again.

Thank you for your help, have a nice day

(I will try to close the topic)

Edit: it looks like i can't put it as resolved. I don't know if I need more rights (from what I saw on the internet) or if I'm just wrong

I don't think there's even an option to mark any thread as [Resolved] here in ToME forum, unless you do it manually like that.

Anyway, speaking of Steam...

Not sure if it's related to your issue; but I just found out that, out of 3 ToMe-on-Steam installation that I have, 1 of them didn't automagically install the Forbidden Cult DLC when I bought it on Steam. :?

No dramas since I simply downloaded and installed the DLC manually, but it's just.. strange.. I even made sure that the DLC is enabled on the local Steam install (which it was) and on the addon menu of the local ToME install (which it wasn't, until my manual installation).

Just my 0.02 gold coin...
