So my dumbquestio is this - this thing has big radius (doesn't stated in description), could be triggered automatically, could be triggered manually, hit hard - but at least it can't get molten points fater then 1 per turn right?

Correct. It triggers automatically at 10 points and doesn't cost a turn if this occurs. If it is triggered manually then it costs a turn. However, it requires steam to trigger automatically.
