ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I run the game on one monitor and have the other one open for browsing. Is there a way so that when the focus is not on the game (cursor is on other monitor) and then returns to the game, it doesn't take a turn? Whenever the focus returns to TOME4, it eats up a turn so I have to be careful when I switch focus. Or just only change focus when TOME is on a menu?

Clicking on a blank spot in the skill bar is the way I found to avoid this problem, and quickly became enough of a habit that I routinely keep a specific slot open as my "focus button".
