ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

So when I switch out a ertain piece of gear, one of my stats becomes lower than the threshhold needed to obtain the talent (or the respective level of that talent) in the talent tree. Does that mean I can no longer use that talent (at that level)? Or is this (in retrospect) a halfway "legit" way of "gearing into" talents I can then safely gear out of and still use? (Seems gamey...)
