How are unlocks saved?

I've got the Steam version, and I'm working on unlocking everything.
If I delete old save data, will it remove the unlocks? Or does it check with Steam?

IIRC unlocks are saved to your account here on TE4, via the allow_build.profile file. That would be why in the unlockables topic you see big lists of unlocks.
I'm not really sure if getting rid of unlocks is even possible, but you could try by deleting those. Whenever you get a new install, it auto-updates with your data including unlocks though (but for me I've always needed to start it up twice for it to recognize the stuff).
