Hi there, folks,
I've done a bit of research, but I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for in terms of order of operation. I'm playing a Paradox Mage. I have a lot of different modifiers, and I'm curious how they all work together (and if they're all of equal benefit).
I have:
+113% Temporal Damage
105% Temporal Damage Penetration
76% Resistance Reduction (through talents).
As I understand it, my damage penetration can't reduce someone's resistance below 0%, but my resistance reduction can. That being the case, is my damage penetration worthless (unless I run into someone with more than a 76% temporal resistance)?

Actually I think that the way resistance works is it doesn't lower enemy resistance by x%, but rather ignores x% of resistance, so up to 100% more resistance always helps against enemies with any resistance, though if you use talents to lower their resistance below 0%, it doesn't help.

You are correct OP. Currently your character ignores all temporal resistance normally (since resist penetration is a % not a flat value) and can additionally reduce it below 0 with Cease to Exist.

if i understand it correctly..
resistance reduction, i am fairly certain reduces by a "flat" %.
so resistance value, minus resistance reduction value, equals effective resistance
50%, - 10%, = 40%
ignore resistance (i am fairly certain its not pen, pen is for armour.), is a % of a %.
R*(1-I)=E
50%*(1-0.1)=45%. (or something like that)
i think "reduce" works before "ignore", but not entirely certain. i think when i ask about it some time ago, its the "weaker" order.
then there is flat damage reduction, which i also have no idea if it happens before, or after resistance reduction.
edit
nevermind the "ignore".
i checked some talents.
while description says "it will ignore", instead of "penetrate", code does refer to "resists.pen".

You'd think that a monsters resistance could go negative (like with trolls intrinsically) and you'd do bonus damage. If they had -30 temporal resistance from your resistance penetration and you do 100 temporal damage in a hit, it would get modified to 130, if it works that way.

It does indeed work that way, as has already been stated in this thread.

I'm glad it bothers you so much that I wanted to confirm I understood it correctly. Anything else you'd like to add, rainbow boy?

Rainbow girl. And sorry about that, it sounded like you were simply restating things without bothering to read the thread properly instead of trying to confirm your own understanding. Honestly, I kinda thought that post was a bit rude after I posted it anyways.

Do you notice what subforum this is? Do you see what it is called? You don't need to get all uppitty at me for being dumb in a dumb forum. I reserve the right to do so here. If this were general chat I could understand it, but here? Harumph!
