What level to enter high peak (nightmare)

I'm currently on my first somewhat successful run in nightmare, just finished the orc prides and am only 42. There are a bunch of old zones back in Maj I could do, but I w'm wondering how many levels I could expect to earn in High Peak, and whether or not I should bother doing them or some adventurers parties.

Have you done all the backup guardians in the west?
Personally I prefer to be level 50 before hp so I am sure everything is working as I like it.
Gear is also important.
What is your class?

Level 42 is doable for high peak, and you may want to be under 50 for a full heal after killing Elandar. If you haven't cleared out all normal zones (e.g. flooded cave, elven ruins, mark of the spellblaze, backup guardians are all easily missed), do them at least.
Adventurer and orc parties are 100% suicide and will take you forever to hit 50 with and farportals are also not great, so after that i'd just say wing it to HP and be extremely scared of stair guardians and Elandar (take disperse magic gloves with you if possible).

Stuff scales to your level anyway, so if you feel confident, give it a go.

Ok, I'll give it a shot. Hopefully it all works out.

i can't stress this hard enough but in high peak enemies get so notably strong that you should assume any rare+ in there is going to one shot you and to either avoid it or only fight it with huge amounts of EHP as backup, and even then it's worth avoiding solipsist doomed and summoner ones.
also kill elandar first in the final fight.

I'm playing a corrupter, so do they do multiple attacks to go through bone shield or is it all in one hit?

It really depends, the enemies guarding stairs are "just" random unique enemies (so 2 sets of class talents) so who knows if they can end up rolling Flurry and bursting your bone shield in one turn or rolling spells that won't break it for a while. Elandar i believe casts single-hit spells as his main offense, and the other final boss has no significant offense outside of melee and (ranged) hexes so bone shield will be good there.

Going to be different then on normal. I was an oozemaster last time, pretty sure I could have gone afk for most of it and just let passives kill everything.

Well in Normal it's a lot more luck based. Of course, most stair guardians are just weak rolls, but you still need to be careful cause some cancer combos can happen and it's can get dangerous fast

Off tangent question, but are the backup guardians mentioned in game anywhere? I've played TOME for a long time and I never even knew they existed.

The presence of the boss in Reknor to go back to the east is a kind of hint.

if you don't murder every town the townspeople talk about them, apparently

So I went back and cleared a few zones, entered slime tunnels at 47, hit lvl 50 on high peak 10, died on bosses

. They just had to much damage for my defences. Oh well, time to try another class.

high peak is pretty intense and some bosses are just insanely strong; especially if they counter your champ/equip. Avoiding some of them can be advisable. I am a pretty stubborn when it comes to leaving bosses behind and kill myself frequently by trying to kill everything (e.g. I struggle to ignore Dark Crypt on insane...). Yet I learned my lesson at high-peak and try to avoid everything that looks too scary with mobility/vision.
Don't get discouraged. Dying is part of the game.
What class did you play?
