How do you buy/get items in arena mode?

every some waves, (don't remember the exact number) a shop window opens on its own.
if you click out, it closes and you have no way to reopen it, until the next time comes, and its again opens on its own.

i... think it was every 15, was a while since i tried the last time.

A). From dead bodies.

B). You'll get a chance to shop at the very start.

C). After every major boss, you'll get a chance to shop. Make sure you've picked up enough gold/items to sell if you want to buy something decent as sometimes, t4/t5 gear is for sale.

how often do you manage to hoard enough gold?

No egos or one minor ego t4/t5 gear is surprisingly cheap.
