Last I heard, not only do they use the same slots but having the demonologist tree will actually stop you from using most of your tinker slots. See this bug report for instance. If I had to guess, the most likely fix will involve changing how demonologist talents reveal tinker slots, with tinkers from any source occupying the same slots.

I'm real sad about all this, because I had the same idea when I learned non-tinker classes could get crafting. Demonologists and friends just get so few good generic trees, it seemed perfect. Still, it'll be interesting to see how the balance works when this is fixed, and there will always be add-ons for trying more-or-less broken versions.
