best way to keep up-to-date?

Is there a way to get warnings in-game that new version(s) are available, or do I need to login to the news-section of the website to see what's new regularly?

A warning on game-start that Embers 1.0.2 is available would have been nice.

Also, I would like to have the version in the name for DLC - the game expands itself into a directory with the version in it, but the .teaac files are strangely anonymous.

If you're using the launcher, it will alert you that a patch is available. If you're using Steam... I dunno how that works.

Otherwise, check the ToME news page: te4.org/news

If using steam it's steam's job to notify you (and it does).
If using non-steam when you're in the main menu it'll check versions and update

I have a slightly odd case. Bought the game via Steam, but donated via website several times since then. Got EoR via the website, and installed it manually. Needless to say Steam has no idea I own EoR, and since I'm launching via Steam I don't get any notification that EoR has updated.

I'm ok with manually updating on the odd moment there's a patch for just EoR, but just thought I'd share.

Is this something that has to be enabled? `Coz I've connected more than once since EoR 1.0.2 came out, and my addons dialog says I still have 1.0.1. There's an "Auto-update on start" checkbox, and it's on.

[This is on a built-from-source installation, though, and on Linux, which probably influences this. To update it manually, do i just go back to the page I downloaded it from originally and re-download it?]

Yes redownloading work.

But it should auto update, linux or not.
Self compiled shouldnt bother it either I think ..

When you arrive on the main menu the log should say it's checking addons, does it ?

[sound F/X: testing] Okay, the closest I've got to that when I'm on the main screen is this bit:

Code: Select all

Checking addon	orcs.teaac	:: (as dir)	false	:: (as teaa)	nil
 * Addon collection subaddon	boot-orcs
 * Addon collection subaddon	boot-screen
 * Addon collection subaddon	tome-orcs
Binding addon	Embers of Rage: Bootmenu	/addons/orcs.teaac	boot-orcs-1.0.0
 * with overload
 * with hooks
[MODULE LOADER] computing addon md5 from	/home/dsb/t-engine4-src-1.4.5/game/addons/orcs.teaac
[PROFILE] Thread connected to profiles.te4.org
--- assorted MD5-checking lines for 'orcs' component files ---
[MODULE LOADER] addon orcs MD5	e82148e2159275fdbe3ab52ce79d646f	computed in 150	nil
Post-processing hooks.
If I go to the Addons dialog, I get a bunch of lines of the form:

Code: Select all

Checking addon	tome-addon-dev.teaa	:: (as dir)	false	:: (as teaa)	15
Checking addon	tome-adven_addon.teaa	:: (as dir)	false	:: (as teaa)	17
Checking addon	tome-ambush_escape.teaa	:: (as dir)	false	:: (as teaa)	19

I've been running the Linux64 (full) versions of ToME 4 since around November 2015, and it has never, ever, auto updated. Not even once. It checks and tells me if a new version is available, but it never actually updates it for me.

I can confirm this. Running 1.4.5 displays a small message on the top left, hidden in the other text, that 1.4.6 is available. Nothing more happens. Now I can understand that auto-updating would perhaps not be possible (it has some safety concerns, of course), but a message-box once (or once each day), would be nice.
