ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

When I tried to use Fearscape in the Mausoleum of the Last Hope Graveyard, it fizzled. Why?

EDIT: I guess there are more places/enemies where it does not work (the Master for instance). I was annoyed that it fizzled in the Eastern Crypt (levels 1 and 2), but then my shade turned around and Fearscaped me (thus losing the vim battle), and I ended the final battle by Fearscape (needing to heal) against the Cultist! Is there a logic to where/when it does not work?

IIRC, Fearscape fizzles if:
- You are too far away for the spell to work.
- The target resists (makes its Spell save).

There are no particular zones where it always fails, but there are some zones with higher average Spell save.

Does it work in zones where you can't teleport, like the Shertul Fortress?

It also doesn't work on summons iirc
