ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Has anyone else had the same problem? The game basically freezes. I had it working on a 8.1 tablet last year but now have a Dell. There is a laborious way to change the setting and I tried turning the OPenGL settings either on or off because I think this might have some thing to do with it. The game works and plays great on my laptop and the tablet has enough power and memory to play this so...

if it freezes after around an hour of game, then that's perfectly normal here.
if it freezes 5 minutes in, then it's not normal.

From the very limited information given I guess the video drivers don't support OpenGL?
