Steam Version Runs Extremely Slow

Hi, I used to play a ton of ToME during the early stages before it was ever on Steam. It was perfectly smooth, with all particle effects and tons of AI on the screen moving etc, perfect frame rate.

Now coming back to ToME a year or more later I tried the Steam version and it runs like absolute garbage. 18 fps when nothing is happening, and bogs down much lower when there are AI and FX going. What the hell happened?

I thought maybe I still had debugging and dev modes on from when I was making modules, but it all seems to be turned off.

How can I get the performance of the pre-Steam version back? My PC is exactly the same, so what changed?

Thanks.

Check to see if you have any command line options set. Specifically --flush-stdiout.

I did that and forgot it was on once.

Have you tried downloading the non-steam version and running that?

Highjacking this thread, I am running the non-Steam version on win 7 - very, very, very slow

I use the Steam version on Win 8.1 and it's not slow for me.

Steam version is consistently slower for me then non-steam, though I'm not sure how much else one can do to resolve. The one thing that I absolutely know creates problems is opening steams browser panel in-game. (shift-tab under default settings). Even after closing it back, it eats sufficiently enough away at tome that it starts dropping keyboard inputs for me, as well as introducing greater lag. Have you been using it at all? (I'd disable the overlay, honestly)
