Log message formatting - is there documentation?

I'm talking about using things like colour codes when displaying a log message.
The workings of things like #LAST#, #Source#, and the particular formatting of #{bold}# and #{normal}# are hard to figure out in a hurry.
I'm pretty au fait with them now, but even so without any documentation I feel as if I'm missing out on a couple of nice key bits of functionality.
So I'd like just to ask quickly, is there documentation for this system? If there isn't, I propose making some!
