If I use gear to buff up a stat in order to get a prodigy, and then I switch gear such that I no longer meet the requirements, does the prodigy still work?

I assume the answer is "yes, obvious, don't be an idiot" but I'm not sure.

Just like allocated skill points, you'll keep the ability even if you lose your stats.

That's why if you have a cross-class prodigy in mind for a stat you won't be boosting much, it's good to keep a number of items which boost that stat in your fortress. Very useful for getting Gravitic Trap on Rogues.
