ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Just started playing as my first archer. A lot of the time when I use shoot or steady shot, something odd happens. I'll hear the sound of a bow play, the turn will pass, but the attack doesn't work. Steady shot goes on cooldown, but it doesn't do damage. There's no miss message either, so it seems like they're dodging my projectile. The issue is, they're six or less squares away and walking right at me, and I don't start hitting till they're in melee range.

Any help?

Most likely, you are targeting snakes, which are agile bastards that backstep when you try to shoot them, so your shot doesn't reach an enemy.

Nagas and Yaechs in the first Yeek starting dungeon. I might have had some issues with the Ritch in the other dungeon too, but wasn't paying as much attention.

Both of those creatures are fastish too.

Running into this issue again, this time with skeleton warriors of both normal and degenerated variety.

I checked their speed, and it was all 100% speed, with no sustains or status effects that might have modified speed in any way. My arrows are still not connecting the majority of the time.
