ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I initially bought ToME on Steam. I now want to play it on my laptop without Steam installed. I want to use my existing account so I can keep my username, characters and unlocks.

How do I log into the same account I use from Steam with the non-Steam version of ToME?

If I can't, is there some way of severing Steam from my ToME account and logging into it normally?
I want ToME everywhere but I don't want Steam everywhere.

You just get the non steam version from the website and use your te4 account to login.

I don't know the te4 account details as I have always logged in via Steam. The website has a login via Steam option, the Steam version of ToME seems to just log me in.

I thought maybe I logged on first time I played and Steam or ToME just remembered it, but I tried my listed username and the only password I would expect to have used, and it wouldn't log me in. Can someone confirm whether that is how it works?

If I was a new user I'd just sign up to the website and log in at the main menu. But I want to log into an existing account and I don't know what username and password Steam has set up for me.

You can create an account on the main site and then link an existing Steam account to it, I reckon.
If you already have an account on the main site, try resetting your password.
