How do I know which add-on's are considered legit?

Let me clarify, is there some kind of organization or database of addons so I can filter out the ones that are semi-cheating? For example I saw one mod called homo-superior or something which is kind of a cheat because the race is intentionally overpowered as %@##@%.

I want to play around with custom races and classes, but I don't want to do it if they are known to be overpowered or too easy, is there a way I can make sure they aren't? Normally I'd just assume to stick to the base classes and races but I often see in-game chat talk about custom races like fairy all the time, and it makes me think that some races (fairy is really the one I see mentioned most often) are considered "fair-game". I've "beat" the game a couple times now, but still haven't played enough to have seen everything and get every achievement (even on normal I mean), so I don't want to cheat myself of the satisfaction by getting them as something I later find out to be considered illegitimate.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm not aware of any list or anything that gives an indication of how balanced addons are.

It sounds to me like you have enough experience with the game to know what's going to be overpowered or cheaty. Just look. Most that are overpowered (such as homosuperior) flat out say they are. Outside of those that are explicitly intended to be overpowered I don't think I've used any addon race or class that felt more powerful than just playing an oozemancer.

I have enough experience to see blatant cases yeah but I dunno if I could recognize it less obvious at initial impression... like if I saw oozemancer as a mod, and didn't hear any opinions on it, I wouldn't know it's op at all...at least not until I tried it first =P

Anyway, thanks for the feeback!

If worst comes to worse, browsing the addons page in the Addons section would probably help, or better yet, just ask us! Most of us will have tried addons and have a good sense of what we felt was or was not balanced. Or, in some cases, be the author that made the overpowered or meticulously balanced add-on. :D
