Change or delete online profile

Is it possible to change the nickname in an online account? After buying in Steam had problems with activation online profile. Tried different options and came out like this. I would like to change my nickname.
Current nickname "Hex12312" i wish to rename to "Hexonix". Or in extreme cases to erase the current online profile and create a new one.
