ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Hey!
So I decided to reinstall ToME since I had had like 100+ abandoned characters from old versions and they made "Load game" screen load really slow.
So I picked some saves, deleted all content, installed via steam, copied saves back, checked integrity, purged the cloud data.
Now I have all my unlocks, etc., that's fine. But like in 80% of tries, when I run ToME, it will take 5+ minutes to sync. And it says that I have about 5Mb in the Steam cloud.

ANY ideas how to fix it, guys?
UPD: if I disable cloud sync, the game will run instantly, but I'd be happy to fix the situation without disabling sync

Still isn't fixed. I reinstalled windows (not because of ToME, though), purged cloud data through the game, deleted local data, including leftovers in the steam/steamapps/common and under c:/users/username/t-engine ; reinstalled through steam - still it attempts to sync for like 7 minutes although it says there's 0 bytes out of 9xx mbytes of cloud used.

Looks like a problem on steam's side. For me it sometimes takes quite long to sync games(not only tome) as well.
