Okay... Two dumb questions.

I'm playing paradox Mage. Level 32 or 33.

Is it worth putting 2 points in Armor training to get the shield skill? I've already spent one, so it's only one more. I could use the extra armor/defense and resistances.

Can I use a short staff and a shield? Is that even possible?

You should be able to use a short staff and a shield. I can't imagine it being worth it though, unless your bset staff just so happens to be a short one anyway, or it's an absolutely amazing shield.
