ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

okay so i'm having a bit of an odd problem with my golem, i have his staff set to fire damage but he is doing acid damage to enemies. Here is a couple of screenshots of his equips

I think it may be because Golem-inserted gems change the Golem's damage type.

indeed that does appear to be the issue, removing his agates returns his damage to normal. However the fact that gems change damage types isn't listed anywhere in their tooltip telling about their stats that i can see.
