Gestures - Mindstar - Combat Accuracy

First time playing Doomed class.

I have "Gesture of Pain" and I'm sustaining it. The comment says something like "use this in place of your normal attack". When I'm sustaining Gesture of Pain, am I using it in place of my normal attack? If not, how do I use it?

Next question: I'm using Mindstars. Is it worth getting the Mindstar skill in Zigur and putting some points in it?

Last question: Does Combat Accuracy help when using Mindstar?

I couldn't find any guides to Doomed, so any advice would be appreciated. :)

Thanks!

Yes, sustaining Gesture of Pain is all you need to do.

If you're using Gesture of Pain, you won't benefit from the increased mindstar damage because Gestures override your basic melee attack. However, it still increases the stat bonuses on mindstars, and IIRC you can use the other talents in the mindstar tree. The limiting factor is going to be your generic points. Of the following, don't expect to be able to invest heavily in more than two: Racials, Cursed Aura, Gestures, Mindstar Mastery, Antimagic, Fungus.
Last question: Does Combat Accuracy help when using Mindstar?
It does, but because mindstar accuracy is based on Willpower, you most likely won't need more than a point or two at most. Gestures ignore defense entirely, so Combat Accuracy is unnecessary if you're using them.

Don't bother with Shadows until your own attack talents are up to snuff, they're a useless hate drain until you can afford to dump a ton of points into the first three talents.

I disagree with this. I like to go 5/5/5/0 in Shadows ASAP since they kill most things on their own early. I don't know how many people know this, but the bonus damage from Shadow Warriors affects their spell damage too.

I did not know that.

I did notice that even with just Shadow Warriors at 1+, my little ADHD shadow-buddies started hurting foes rather than just being a waste of Hate. Maybe they start with near-zero physical power?

Shadow Warriors doesn't increase physical power, it gives them an inc_damage.all bonus, which is why it affects their spells. It's just that, IMO, there are better talents to prioritize: Hateful Whisper 4/5 at 4, Blast 5/5 at 8, and Madness and Unseen Force 5/5 at 12, then filling out Deflection and picking up Dark Torrent. The shadows-early Doomed I played a long time ago died horribly in the Restless Dead event, whereas my current one demolished it effortlessly due to Hateful Whisper and Blast.

Hmm, then maybe it's their accuracy? I dunno, it just seemed like even at just 1 point in Shadow Warriors my two derpy little guys suddenly could actually hit stuff for some damage, while without it they were just moderately expensive speed-bumps.
