When to fight Urkis?

He killed my longest-lasting character to date(Lvl.14 Bulwark, really regret not getting a shield that could block electric, but couldn't leave after I entered), and in another topic I was told fighting Urkis at that low a level was prooooooooooobably unwise.

So, if I may ask, what'd be a better level to wait until? Maybe until after I do the t2 places? I know it's probably class-dependent a bit, but a general idea of when I can try to unlock the electric tree'd help me gauge if he'll wreck me again or not. x3

I generally do Urkis late, for any character. After all T2 dungeons and the halfling ruins.
The main problem with Urkis are his hurricanes. Having a mean to remove magical debuffs is very useful. Spell saves are frequently not enough. Also, you can stack lightning resistance. Most mobs in this dungeon deal lightning damage.

Ah. I think I had 30% or so lightning resistance, but I didn't really try for more. 50% probably woulda been better, just didn't expect him to hit as hard as he did. :V

Early 20s works well for me.

I usually do stuff in this order: T1's, Maze, Old Forest, Nur, Urkis, Sandworm, Daikara.

Ah, I was doing T1s, Old Forest, Sandworm Tunnels, Urkis.

That said, Sandworm tunnels isn't TOO hard, but damn, it's intense! So kudos to Darkgod for that. I still kinda dread going back to that place, ecspecially without a teleport/door rune. D:

I generally go T1, Lost Merchant, Maze (unless it's the horror version), Sandworm, Old Forest, Nur, and then sit back and see what I feel like doing next. I won't do Urkis, though, not until I've at least done the other miscellaneous dungeons and Daikara.

Yeah. Didn't add in the other areas(Arena, Merchant, Brawler area). :P

I'll steer clear of him for now then, at least until I get a bit more power...or at least a ton of lightning res. 100% would make him pretty much a joke, right?

Maximum normally is 70% and all resist on top of that. One third will get through and then all resist will let one third of that through. That makes it 90% resisted. It's pretty hard to get all resist that high though.
Personally I don't even bother with resist for him anymore. When he emerges and shoots his alpha I bite the bullet and fall back to heal. When I knew his location I can lure him around the corner.

The difficulty is comparable to Daikara, maybe a little harder. So after the t2 dungeons sounds about right. Getting more than 30-50% lightning resist is very unlikely this early in the game, but that still helps a lot. Simple +health helps too. And the best healing / regen infusions that you can find, this is very important and should be shopping priority number one.

I'm pretty sure the resist cap takes resist all into account, so if you've got 50% resist lightning and 50% resist all, your effective lightning resistance is still 70% (unless you've managed to raise the cap).

Anyway, lightning resistance helps, but not as much as you'd think, because Urkis has 50% resist penetration from his Tempest talent. Even if you hit the cap, your effective resistance against his lightning attacks is only 35%. What you really want is stun resistance, to protect against his Hurricane. If you resist his dazes, Hurricane won't trigger.

Oh...I see. Still new to this, so didn't know it capped at 70%, thanks. :3

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. Haven't done Daikara yet, but Urkis's area wasn't too bad, so hopefully Daikara will be relatively easy.

Oh, he does? Butts. xP

I'm not even sure if he used hurricane. The main things I rememeber is him freezing me and an AoEish looking lightning thing(Assuming it isn't hurricane, since I kinda figure it'd have an animation and not electricy junk).

That sounds like Nova. Hurricane is actually a status effect that makes you constantly explode with electricity. It's a painful way to die, and almost all of his attacks have a chance of inflicting it. Luckily, stun resistance protects against Hurricane as well (basically, he has to daze you to inflict it on you, and stun immunity prevents dazing).

options:

magical wild infusion
BIG shield
high spell save (> 40)
lightning resist, but not so important
attacks of yours that stun/disable/ confuse him

Torcs that give shield against lightning and blight for 6 turns help to survive hurricane
