ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Ok, I was in trollmire and my alchemist died to prox the mighty.
BUT My golem finished off Prox, who only had 4 HP left anyway. I immediatley got two achievments, but now Im stuck as my golem, who can now level up independently, but is not allowed to leave trollmire and cannot pickup rod of return or whatever.
Do I just have to restart?
Can I continue playing as my golem somehow?
Do I have to get my golem killed and visit the eidolon dude?
What are my options?

There is a self destruct button...

Yeah, I got this too in Reknor. It was super weird when it happened... I actually randomly decided to hit the self destruct button, not knowing what it did. As I recall, I got stuck in the Eidolon Plane without the Alchemist and had to self destruct again, netting me a game over. Bug perhaps?

Your only option is to run around the current map with the golem or not.
The golem dying will give control back to you.
