Re: Dumb questions thread
Aaah, Virtue lost. Love that one, nice to know what it's called. Thanks Aura!
EDIT: I am suddenly reminded that we need final boss music. Final boss music! Come on Darkgod! I like, "They came from Nowhere", reminds me of the ambush music a bit(hold the line), but now that I listen to it "Burn them Down", is pretty epic too...hmm...

Re: Dumb questions thread
Does anyone know how hard it would be to make an addon that forces a prompt to pop up when the player character first detects a rare or elite enemy?
For some reason I keep glazing over their purple border and getting wiped when I could have handled it if I reacted immediately.

Does Alchemist Protection protect all friendly targets or only yourself and the golem?

Re: Dumb questions thread
Any non-agro creature will be protected from your bombs, not just you and your golem.
<astralInferno> poor stunt
<astralInferno> you suffer so that others may suffer in the intended way

Re: Dumb questions thread
Actually found out myself through experimenting a bit, but thanks for the answer anyways

Re: Dumb questions thread
A few questions:
1) Item colors. I know that yellow are fixed named artifacts, and white are not enchanted. Between that are: green, blue, and purple. Brown seems to be random-name artifacts. What does each color mean? Are the colors sorted into tiers, such that one is in general 'better' than another?
2) Staff names: 'vilestaff', 'starstaff', etc. What do these mean?
3) What does 'Crafted by a master' imply?
4) How important are saves? What number on saves should I be shooting for? I seem to get a lot of negative status effects on my archmage with around 25-40.
Thanks!

5) What does '1.xx or 0.xx ego modifier' mean?

Re: Dumb questions thread
1. Colours go:
White - non magic
Green - 1/2 minor egos
blue - 1 major ego, 0/1 minor ego
purple - 2 major egos
salmon - completely random item that rares drop (can get stats that aren't any ego combination)
orange - random artifact, multiple egos
yellow - artifact, fixed stats
2. the names just refer to the damage type (which can be swapped with command staff). So a star staff does darkness damage for example
3. not much, as far as I know.
4. Saves are an 'opposed roll' - so when a status effect hits you, it compares your saves with their attack stat (like physical power), adds some randomness, and sees if you avoid it or not. So it's hard to say what are 'good' saves, it depends on how far through the game you are. More is always better of course.
5. I believe that changes the power of egos (i.e. things like 'elemental' or 'of flame').

Re: Dumb questions thread
"Crafted by a master" means that the item's special abilities are the result of mundane craftsmanship, rather than arcane enchantment or natural/psionic/antimagic infusion. The only power sources that are particularly relevant are arcane (cannot be used by Ziguranth) and antimagic (causes the wielder's arcane spells to fail randomly). The others might have some obscure relevance somewhere else, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Nature-powered, Psionic-powered, and Arcane Disrupting are notable for the Solipsist Psychometry talent. Access to Angolwen takes an Arcane artifact. I don't know of anything else that power source affects.
<Ferret> The Spellblaze was like a nuclear disaster apparently: ammo became the "real" currency.

More usefully, play very cautiously at early levels, and do brave sir robin impressions a lot (i.e. run away).
Re: Dumb questions thread
Having said that, one of my favorite "not dying" tricks for them is to cap out Dual Weapon Defense ASAP.Theyleon wrote:With difficulty.ibanix wrote:Rogues: How do you not die painfully all the time?
Being able to wall most physical attacks until Dreadfell with a fairly high rate is an amazing help for them.
Re: Dumb questions thread
Why do the stairs in the dwarven starter zone force a level up? I think that is the only place in the game that does that.
It's sort of frustrating, since I find myself hoping to find the stairs without killing many enemies so that I can come back and maybe get an extra level out of it (this doesn't happen).

Re: Dumb questions thread
Because without that, Norgan would likely get so many kills you might not even be level 2 by the time you meet Brotoq. And that's MUCH worse. Just take your 3 levels and be happy.
Currently playing under the name Aura of the Dawn 4 down, 227 to go!
