What is the "check" that Antimagic Shield makes?

In the text of Antimagic shield, it says "Each time damage is absorbed by the shield, your equilibrium increases by 1 for every 30 points of damage and a check is made. If the check fails, the shield will crumble..."

What is the check? How do I know if I have a good chance to succeed or not? Is there any information available on which stat (if any) I can invest in to help buff this?

Thanks.

I'm not certain but I believe it's the equilibrium fail chance.

Yes, it's an equilibrium check, made after it absorbs damage.

The description is not completely clear. It says "Each time damage is absorbed by the shield, your equilibrium increases by 1 for every 30 points of damage and a check is made. If the check fails, the shield will crumble and Antimagic Shield will go on cooldown."

However, it is 1 for every 30 points of damage ABSORBED. That is, say your shield is at 90 and you get 300 damage.

Your equilibrium will go up by 3 (90 / 30) and then the check is made. It will not go up by 10 (300 / 10).

Whether it crumbles or not, the damage is still reduced by the shield size. So you'd get in this case hit for 210 damage (300-90).
